Critical Design Factors for Industrial SMPS
- Thermal Ventilation: Maintain minimum clearance (typically 20mm top/bottom, 10mm sides) around DIN rail power supplies to allow natural convection cooling.
- Over-Voltage & Short-Circuit Protection: Ensure your SMPS incorporates automatic hiccup or constant-current foldback modes to recover automatically after short-circuit faults.
- Input Surge Withstand: Industrial power grids suffer from switching transients. Opt for supplies rated for 110V to 220V AC input with built-in line filtering.
Preventing Unplanned Downtime
- Calculate total panel current draw and select a power supply rated at 120-130% of maximum continuous load.
- Use parallel-redundant diode modules when high power availability is non-negotiable.
